What Enderby's Climate Does to Buildings
Enderby gets more precipitation than Vernon. Both summer rain and winter snow. The river valley collects moisture, and that affects every part of an exterior building system. Asphalt shingles see more freeze-thaw stress here than in Vernon. Vinyl and wood siding pick up more moisture. Gutters move more water in spring melt and summer storms. We spec accordingly.
Snow load is significant. Enderby gets 50 to 100 percent more snow than Vernon in a typical winter, with individual storms that can dump 12-plus inches. Ice damming is the most common roof problem we see here, and it is almost always rooted in inadequate attic ventilation rather than the roof itself. We do attic ventilation review on every Enderby re-roof.
Wind is mostly along the valley axis. Occasionally severe in spring and fall storms. We use extra fastening, upgraded ridge cap, and proper edge metal on every Enderby roof. Material choice matters too. IKO ArmourShake handles wind better than entry-level shingles, and metal handles it best of all.
